Advent Calendar Day 1 – O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

I hope you have all been travelling well through this plague year.

I have both too much and too little to say, and very little of it has been about food, which is why I haven’t been posting here.

But somehow or other we have found ourselves in Advent, even though it feels like it is still May, and that means it’s time for an Advent calendar.

Usually, by this time of year, I would have already sung one big carol service, and I would have been rehearsing my work choir for close to a month. I’d be gearing up for a month of wall to wall carol services and concerts and singing engagements.

This year, I’ll be singing precisely three times. And I am grateful to have even that.

But since it really doesn’t feel like Advent unless I am singing all the time, I’ve decided that it’s time for a little bit of One Woman Choir action! After all, I’ve been arranging carols for female voices for my work choir for years. And I can sing both soprano and alto. And Garageband lets me combine multiple tracks…

So yeah. Welcome to my slightly self-indulgent 2020 Musical Advent Calendar. I’m going to record a new carol every day from now until Christmas.

But since it really is Advent, and not the Christmas season, I’m going to start with a proper advent piece.
